Nothing goes well for me
Let me tell you about it
Sadly and unfortunately, my grandpa just passed away. He had been in and out of the hospital a lot recently for various injuries, and he finally decided it was his time to go. Most of my family was there when it happened. My sister and I were on the way to see him and got there just a few minutes after he passed away. We all cried together and it was really sad to see him. But death is a natural part of life, and he died peacefully, without much pain or struggle. I'm glad that that's how it happened. My grandpa and I were pretty close. He had a lot of love in his heart and was probably the most optimistic person I've ever known. It's weird to think about how I'll never see or get to talk to him again. This is the first impactful death I've been old enough to really have resonate with me. I feel okay as of right now, but how I'll feel later remains to be seen. The good thing is I was able to see my grandpa alive one last time last night while he still had energy and was lucid. This was a pretty somber post, but life isn't all unicorns and rainbows as they say.

This week has been one consumed by speech. I was put in the category of Creative Expression this year, which is one I have no experience in. Because of this, I've felt a bit like a fish out of water. Creative requires you to write your own speech, and I've never had to do that before, so it had me pretty stressed out. So I spent every night this week working on writing my speech. It took a lot longer than I initially thought. I spent basically three entire nights working on it, but I finally finished. It felt like a really huge weight was lifted off my shoulders, but there was still more work to come. After writing, I had to block and memorized my speech, which I'm still working on now. It's hard work, but everyone in speech has to do something similar, and I'm making good progress. About three fifths of my speech is blocked and memorized, and the rest should be ready to go in a day or so.
Today was quite an interesting one if I do say so myself. It all started in seventh period, when my friends Taylor, Genaro, and I were hanging out in the school library. Recently, the kind librarian has put puzzles and chess sets out in the basement media center part of the library, so Genaro and I were battling in a game of chess. We played three games in total: I won the first, Genaro won the second, and we didn't quite have time to finish the last. Class was about to start, but we were trying our best to finish the match before we had to leave. Taylor began to get fed up with us holding him back, so he messed with the chess board. This made both Genaro and I angry, so we insulted Taylor, and he slapped me in retaliation. Now I was really mad, so I retaliated by trying to hit him back and tossing his AirPods case onto the ground. After this, Taylor became completely infuriated, and he stormed off to class. We tried to finish the game before class started, but simply ran out of time (I still technically won because I had taken more of Genaro's pieces) and rushed to Journalism. Once there, Taylor and I argued more about what went down in the library. It went on entirely too long, but eventually we were able to come to a consensus, put our differences aside, and be buddies again. That is all for today, thanks for reading.
Late last week, my friend Taylor showed me the new Disney+ exclusive The Mandalorian. This show got both of us wanting to be able to travel through space and be awesome bounty hunters. Because of this desire, Taylor convinced me to buy a video game for us to play together. The game was No Man's Sky, and we were both very excited. No Man's Sky is an open world space exploration game that is completely procedurally generated, meaning every planet, animal, and plant in the game is created randomly. You can also do bounty hunting quests, so Taylor and I were ready to be hooked. Unfortunately, that is not what ended up happening. The game began with an arduous and incredibly boring tutorial section, and Taylor couldn't even figure out how to run it at first. I played through a lot of the tutorial and it was simply a slog and not fun. By the time Taylor began playing, I had already gotten through about 2 hours and was still in the middle of the tutorial, so I stopped playing for the night. Taylor progressed to about where I was and stopped playing as well. Unbeknownst to me, Taylor refunded the game that very night, as it was nothing like what he'd hoped for. I played it a little more the next day, but ultimately decided the same thing and refunded it as well. But at this point I hadn't known that Taylor had refunded, and planned to tell him on Monday. This is when he told me that he had already done so, but didn't want to tell me because he thought I had played it too long to be granted a refund. If I'm being honest, that's kind of a bad friend move as the game was $30, but I'll let it slide this time since I got my money back. Next time he won't be so lucky.
I won't be talking about my bad luck this week, as I actually haven't had very bad luck at all. So instead I'm going to be reviewing a TV series that has quickly become one of my favorite shows of all time. This show is the anime, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Now I am not a usual fan of anime, and I've never really watched it before. To be honest I always used to think all anime was really dumb, so I'm probably just about the last person to watch this. A few of my friends are super into Jojo and they'd always talk about it and send Jojo memes that I wouldn't get. This annoyed me and I'd constantly make fun of them for liking what I thought was nothing but a stupid anime. I was wrong. It took me about a year to realize and finally give Jojo a chance, but once I did at the beginning of this school year, I was hooked. It's such a fun, unique show that's hard to explain. Basically, the show is currently made up of five parts, with each part following a different descendant the Joestar bloodline. All of them are nicknamed Jojo, and each part takes place in a different time period. The show's main conflicts are those of good versus evil and righteousness versus corruption. Jojo is really weird, plus the first two parts are pretty boring and their combat style is completely different from the rest of the show. This can make it hard to get into if you start from the very beginning, but I felt like it was worth it. I love this show in all it's bizarre absurdity, but I don't I'll ever watch another anime.
I was going to change course this week, but something very weird happened today. I was walking around the basement of the school with my friend Taylor, and we saw what can only be described as an omen. This omen took the form of a young person in overalls with a red hoodie wrapped and tied around their waist. Now I'll be honest: my luck has actually been pretty good recently. Or at least I haven't been unlucky. But I believe this person was a signifier of bad times to come. It's difficult to describe, but both Taylor and I felt a sense of existential dread upon meeting eyes with this person. We could tell almost instantly that they held some sort of otherworldly power that we could never hope to comprehend. All they were doing was circling around the basement hallways without pause. It was so confusing to see, and we tried to follow them to see where they were headed, but they just kept looping the halls. After class started, we had to wonder whether what we witnessed actually occurred or if it was a sign that Taylor and I were about to happen upon some major misfortune. I'm a pretty superstitious person, so this is a possibility in my mind, but I just don't know. We're going to look again tomorrow to see if this omen is still there. If they are, it may be a sign that things are about to get weird again. As always, I'll keep you posted.
This was going to be another chapter in my chronicle of unfortunate and unlucky events, but I actually fell into some good luck recently. Before we get to that, I'll tell you about the misfortune that did occur. It was a sunny afternoon and I had just gotten out of school. I was pulling out of my parking spot, but this car backing up behind me wasn't paying attention, and he backed right into me. I was stunned, as I had done everything in my power to prevent the collision. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do to stop him from hitting me. The bumper of my car was pretty messed up, and the damage was significant. This really had me down for a while, but I did everything you're supposed to after an accident. I was worried that, even though I had no fault in it, the insurance agency would decide there was no fault and not pay for my car's repairs. Luckily enough, which is something I don't often get to say, the person who hit me told the truth and their insurance said they'd pay for the full repairs of my car. They paid for a rental car too! So I brought it in and am currently waiting for it to be done, which should be tomorrow. I'm really excited, as they're replacing my bumper, and I've been driving my dad's car for the past week, which sucks to drive. While I definitely have been enjoying this bit of good fortune, I don't think it'll last. But, as always, I'll keep you posted!
Ever since about the beginning of August, I've been having some pretty bad luck. It's now bordering on the line of absurdity, so I decided I'd document it in this blog. To start, let me take you back to the beginning of August. It was a Tuesday evening, and I was with my friends Grant, Taylor, and Dexter. We were having a final group hangout and sleepover before Grant left for camp and Dexter moved to New York for college. Everything was going well until these dumb girls from Fargo North decided to prank us. They showed up at Grant's house, but we had no idea what they were doing there or who they were - we couldn't see them and thought they were neighborhood kids. So, Grant and I went into his front room to look outside and see who was there. We were both looking out the window, but then, out of the blue, Grant whipped around and started running out of the room. He obviously wasn't paying attention and ended up slamming right into my face. My two front teeth dug into his forehead and were knocked loose. It was really painful and my gums were bleeding for the whole night. My left tooth also got pushed back from it's original position, which was unfortunate. I waited a week to go to the dentist, which was a mistake. Since I waited so long, my dentist was only able to splint my teeth so they'd tighten back up, but couldn't put my tooth back into it's original position. He put braces on my front four teeth for two weeks, and gave both front teeth root canals. It was a really unfortunate situation that I'm only just getting out of a month and a half later. I mean, it still hurts to use my teeth! But that's all for this week, I'll keep you posted.
